Friday Feature: Breathe Deeply and Smile

1. What’s your name, blog name, and how did you create your blog title?

I’m Lauren and I blog over at Breathe Deeply and Smile. Many people think it’s a yoga blog type of name. While I mostly talk about my running, I wanted my blog to not be pigeon-holed and be able to have the space to right about whatever I felt during my journey through life. I found the power of exercise and healthier living after college and am easily stressed out and anxious. Learning to breathe deeply, smile, and take on the day one task at a time is a reminder I need everyday. Life can be beautiful and worrying is usually a waste of energy!

2. What can a new visitor expect to find from your blog?

 

My goal for my blog is to share my journey toward a healthy and happy life and show people that there’s a way to balance everything in life including a social life, job, family, and healthy living. You get a lot of running & fitness, my favorite foods, recipes, favorite finds, local Baltimore products & events, and my random life adventures! It’s not my diary or workout journal, but a place where I keep it fairly light-hearted and share my adventures in health & fitness as I navigate my twenties.

3. What is one lesson you’ve learned about blogging since you first started your website?

 

When I first started blogging I had some awful photographs and graphics before I learned about some of the great programs and design elements available out there. I found that presentation is everything, especially in such a visual age. Also it’s easy to get caught up in blog statistics. My blog isn’t huge so it’s nice to be reminded to just focus on the content and the reader base you already have, instead of trying to do what everyone else is doing.

4. Do you ever experience days when you don’t want to make healthy choices? How do you motivate yourself when you really need it?

 

Everybody has days where going to the gym or eating healthy is the last thing they feel like doing. I stay motivated by setting goals (like road races) and focusing on how I feel. Listen to your body and its cues. Most days I know I’ll feel better after sweating or getting a run in. Or that I’ve had a bunch of less than healthy food so my body will feel better with some fruits, veggies, and water. Some days I know I need to sleep in, stretch, and rest, for a better mind & body!

5. If you could live any place for the rest of your life, where would it be and why?

 

Right now I really love living in a city with being able to walk to events & restaurants and be surrounded by things always happening. One day I think I need to be near a beach though, definitely surrounded by sunshine. I’d love to live in San Diego, land of perfect weather or San Francisco (if I could afford it!) if my family wasn’t so far away!
