What’s your name, blog name, and how did you create your blog title?
I’m Denise and I blog at Get Healthy, Princess! This name came about as a mix between my everlasting journey to getting healthy and my love of Disney.
How would you describe your blogging style?
I am NOT a fancy blogger. I write what is on my mind. I rarely preplan blogs and I very seldom “edit”. I do look for grammatical errors but not to re-write it based on whatever the better bloggers edit by. The way you read it is they way I would tell you what is happening if we were having a conversation.
What are some of your favorite blogging tools?
I am very simple and love WordPress. Tailwind for pinning and co-schedule for planning blog promotions.
What is your healthy eating philosophy?
I am an intermittent faster and carb cycler. This is not a way of eating I thought I would ever practice but it has ended up being the most freeing. I don’t think about food except to pre-plan it and eat it and it is again, very freeing!
What’s one goal you’re working towards right now?
I have registered for my first ever half marathon. I don’t ever remember a time when I didn’t DREAM of being a runner. I’ve always waited until I could get to the perfect weight. Something clicked last spring and I decided to stop waiting and just do a 5k. I registered for 4 of them, chickened out of the first and completed 3. At the same time I registered for the Disney Princess 10k through Girls on the Run. It ended up being too soon after my 2017 knee surgery and I wasn’t able to train. I am now knee pain free and looking forward to fundraising, training and all that entails!
What daily health to-do is easiest for you to complete? Which is the one you struggle with every single day?
The easiest is by far intermittent fasting. I have no trouble at all not eating until noon. Sleep/rest is my hardest. I do NOT like to sleep. Never have! I’ve heard stories about how hard it was to get me to sleep as a very small child and that hasn’t changed. Something might happen that I’ll miss!!
What is something you’ve learned recently that you found interesting?
I am still learning that STUFF is just STUFF. It can either weigh you down or lift you up. I have recently began decluttering my house (again!) and this is a great part of my healthiness journey! It is amazing to me what getting rid of a bag of clothes does for my mental health when I go in the closet to find an outfit for work. Also, walking through my house and seeing so much less of what needs to be DONE and so much more of what brings me joy is an amazing feeling and leaves room for so much more of what I want in my brain and so much less stress of all the things that need to be done!
