What’s your name, blog name, and how did you create your blog title?

Hi, we’re Alena and Lars Schowalter. We created nutriciously.com after brainstorming for a while… even though we’re all about vegan eats and healthy, wholesome ingredients, we wanted the title to be catchy and keep people from thinking that it’s not for them just because it happens to be vegan. So, we combined a few keywords that were important to us and this was the result: nutritious and delicious food. That’s what you get. Our recipes are nutriciously 🙂

What can a new visitor expect to find from your blog?

Unique, whole food plant-based recipes free from oil and refined sugar. But we also write extensive article on health topics and around the vegan lifestyle, offer downloadable freebies like grocery lists or transition cheat sheets, have a free online transition course to a healthy plant-based diet, and more. We also try to keep our blog clean and stylish – no ads, only high quality pictures and graphics. We design everything ourselves and are the sole authors except for a few guest posts.

What is one lesson you’ve learned about blogging since you first started your website?

You will never “arrive” there. You will always have a growing to do or “ideas” list and it feels like you’re never working enoug. That’s a vicious cycle and you need to be strict with yourself, have the weekends off, stay connected to real life things, and don’t define yourself by work only.

What is your favorite way to get moving, burn calories and energy, and get your exercise-on?

We love playing tennis or going for walks in nature. It’s not so much the calories we want to burn but support our bodies for great health, feeling strong and vibrant and excited for life! We also like yoga and stretching, or swimming in the ocean when possible.

Do you ever experience days when you don’t want to make healthy choices? How do you motivate yourself when you really need it?

Sure, I assume everyone does. And it’s okay to not eat 100% healthy for every meal! Sometimes, we just make “okay” choices when eating out and let ourselves indulge in plant-based goodness that might be a bit fried or overly sweet. We don’t ever crave anything beyond that because our taste preferences have simply changed over the years. My number one tip would be: don’t buy anything you don’t want to eat. Create a supportive environment for yourself so you only have good food choices at home 🙂 What motivates us when we don’t feel like it are our bodies that feel less great when we just lay around all day and munch on rich foods or sweets. After a day like these, all we want is fresh fruit and a salad! But I’d also go for cool YouTube videos, they can be super motivational.

If you could live any place for the rest of your life, where would it be and why?

I wouldn’t want to settle just yet (we’re in the process of traveling the world right now) but I think a beautiful town house or cottage close to where we grew up in Germany would be the place for us ultimately. We love nature and living somewhere quiet and peaceful, not too far away from a small city where other entrepreneurs and vegans live and come together. Plus, we like meeting up with family regularly!

Let’s talk traveling: what is your favorite place to visit in your favorite city or town for vacationing?

We’re currently traveling through Thailand and it’s honestly amazing here! Especially on Koh Phangan, so many great vegetarian and vegan places that make healthy eating a breeze. Due to the good weather, you can spend a lot of your day outside, walking or swimming.
