What’s your name, blog name, and how did you create your blog title?
Gretchen Fox, from Gretchen, In-Between, and I created it as a kind of rebranding after my initial blog name “Honey, I Shrunk the Gretchen” stopped being as relevant since I stopped focusing so much on weight loss. Now it’s a blog about my continued strives towards healthy, balanced living but also my life in general — and I consider myself to be “between” a lot of things — straight and plus size, adulthood and being a child at heart, etc.
What can a new visitor expect to find from your blog?
Lately, looooots of baby pictures, since my current favorite thing to blog about is my 6-month-old daughter, Penny! Also a dose of real life, family, travel, food, and my reinvigorated efforts to prioritize my health.
What is one lesson you’ve learned about blogging since you first started your website?
Consistent contributions are key if you want to grow your following. Growing my blog traffic isn’t a current priority of mine, but has been in the past, and I’ve found that having a predictable posting schedule (which I don’t follow currently) makes a huge difference. Also, readers REALLY value authenticity and honesty — they are amazingly perceptive and can tell when you’re sugarcoating or glossing over something. Be your true self, even when things in your life aren’t “blog perfect” — they’ll love you all the more for it!
Do you ever experience days when you don’t want to make healthy choices? How do you motivate yourself when you really need it?
My biggest motivation right now is my daughter. I want to be a strong, healthy example for her — to be able to keep up with her, to be a role model for her, and to be around for her as long as I possible can. Whenever I find myself making bad choices, I just take a look at her and remember that while I am always trying to be my healthiest self for myself, it’s now about her, too.
What is your favorite place to visit in your favorite city or town for vacationing?
The riverfront in Savannah, GA — Savannah is an amazing, amazing city — full of awesome local businesses and a gorgeous historic downtown area. I love visiting there.
If you could live any place for the rest of your life, where would it be?
Right where I am! I love living in Northern Virginia — the only caveat I’d make is bringing my sister and her family back to live in this area as well. The rest of our family already lives up here too, so having her back would really make it perfect!
