Friday Feature: Everyday Foodie

FridayFeatures3In our weekly Friday Feature, we share a 5-question interview with one of the fantastic members of Take the time to get to know your co-members, pick up tips and tricks, blogging know-how, and recommendations from your fellow bloggers. If you’re an HLB member and haven’t gotten your interview email yet, don’t worry, you will in time! We’re working our way through a list of 2,000+ members’ blogs at random.

1. What’s your name, blog name, and how did you create your blog title?

My name is Jolene and my blog name is Everyday Foodie.

I post about what I eat everyday, and I am a major foodie, so I just combined the two words, and there was my title. I am also not a trained chef, but just a regular, “everyday” home cook who loves food, so I liked that the name could be looked at that way too.

2. What is one lesson you’ve learned about blogging since you first started your website?

I learned that my blog can grow, and change, and transform as I do, and there is no need to explain it. Readers want to read what comes naturally to the writer, and so I write about what I want to write about, instead of trying to force anything, or worrying too much about if it’s what the readers are wanting. What I think the readers want the most is authenticity, and I’ve made a point of staying authentic over the years.

3. What is your favorite site to visit to find motivation in your healthy living journey? What do you find from this website?

This isn’t likely a conventional answer, but I like to visit Foodgawker.

I get meal ideas from this site, and inspiration. To me, healthy eating involves a lot of variety, and eating whatever I want within reasonable portions. I don’t deny myself any food, and I never feel guilt after eating something, as I don’t classify foods as good or bad.

4. Let’s talk traveling: what is your favorite place to visit in your favorite city or town for vacationing?

New York and New Orleans are my top two places to travel to, and the eats are out-of-this-world! We usually plan our vacations around the food. There are so many places on our travel list; we’re really excited to make it to Texas for BBQ one day!

5. Do you ever experience days when you don’t want to make healthy choices? How do you motivate yourself when you really need it?

I don’t think too much about this, but rather just load my grocery cart up with healthy foods. When we have healthy foods in the house, that is what we eat. When I am at a restaurant, I order whatever I want, however we don’t usually go to fast food restaurants, as we never feel great after eating at them. I’d say we hit up a fast food burger restaurant once every year or two.

We meal plan, and buy all the groceries for the meals, so that we’re never at a loss for what to have for dinner, which can sometimes lead to unhealthy eating choices.
