1. What’s your name, blog name, and how did you create your blog title?

Hi! Name’s Aida – the brain behind lifestyle and wellness blog www.SliceOfTorchGinger.com
The inspiration came from a unique pink flower bud of a torch ginger plant – a rare find in countries I lived in the past two decades. The aromatic fragrance, the surprising flavour and the magical taste common in the South East Asia cuisine.The long-stemmed flower resemblance a torch define the ‘live to thrive’ essence of this blog i.e. to ignite, inflame and kindle a healthy way of life.

2. What can a new visitor expect to find from your blog?

A blog in sharing passion for full-flavour, well-balanced healthy food, living well and active living. Aside from demonstrating versatile recipes that can be enjoyed from vegans to omnivores alike, SOTG plan to bring thoughtful platform of writing on area of interests; food ethics, farm-to-table, organic produce, culinary discoveries, travel and fitness. In addition, SOTG will document journey of life continuous improvement with aim to inspire and take charge – learning new things, living fully, and taking new challenges.

Aside from food, the blog covers health and fitness related with focus on running and participation in various races (trail and ultra mainly), as well as travel and lifestyle in general.Recommendations, tips, product and gears review including interviews with inspiring individuals are other coverage area to be included.

3. Do you ever experience days when you don’t want to make healthy choices? How do you motivate yourself when you really need it?

Yes absolutely because as an individual there are days that do not work my way. I practice to be conscious at every decision I make and think about the consequences of any action undertake. I motive myself by understanding the ‘why’, then the ‘how’ in making healthy choices get easier. Also I squeeze in an element of fun to ensure healthy choices made are enjoyable experience because it is important to enjoy a process and embrace journey of being healthy rather than focus on ultimate destination. Finally, embrace that good things take time, and there’s no shortcut.

4. What is your favorite way to get moving, burn calories and energy, and get your exercise-on?

Put my sneakers on and run. From hard training run, long slow run, run to meet friends for chat, or run to do errands (like run to farmers market to buy some kale, run to cobbler to pick-up shoes for repairs)

5. Let’s talk traveling: what is your favorite place to visit in your favorite city or town for vacationing?

My top pick has to be a vacation at boutique safari in Phinda Private Game Reserve, South Africa where the big 5 were sighted in one day and daily game viewings were the highlight. There’s magical feeling being in nature and wildlife, not too mention wonderful African hospitality and comfort of stay. I left my heart in Africa and look forward to return.
