In our weekly Friday Feature, we share a 5-question interview with one of the fantastic members of HealthyLivingBlogs.com. Take the time to get to know your co-members, pick up tips and tricks, blogging know-how, and recommendations from your fellow bloggers. If you’re an HLB member and haven’t gotten your interview email yet, don’t worry, you will in time! We’re working our way through a list of 2,000+ members’ blogs at random.
1. What’s your name, blog name, and how did you create your blog title?
My name is Jessica and my blog is “Keeping Mommy Sane” (www.keepingmommysane.com). As the name implies, I am a mom of two who works full-time and struggles with that elusive work-life balance. I know lots of other women are in a similar position, so I wanted to share my journey and the things that keep me sane in this crazy, busy world: running, living a healthy lifestyle, finding yummy recipes and – just for fun – fashion and bargain shopping.
2. What can a new visitor expect to find from your blog?
A little bit of everything! Some days I may recap a race or talk about my training goals, but then I’ll share a funny story about my kids or complain about the demands of motherhood or pass along a new vegetarian recipe. But one thing you won’t find are recipes of my own creation; I’m a terrible cook but I’m excellent at following directions! I also have two weekly features on my blog: New Food Monday (my weekly attempt to turn my mini culinary critics into adventurous eaters by encouraging them to try a new food every week) and Favorite Things Friday, a random sampling of some of my favorite products/movies/gear/music/etc.
3. What is one lesson you’ve learned about blogging since you first started your website?
My blog is still relatively new, so every day I’m learning something! But the biggest lesson so far is realizing that I don’t have to pigeonhole myself as a certain type of blogger – it’s okay to just be me and write about the things that are important in my life. As long as I stay true to myself, my writing will be authentic and, I hope, enjoyable.
4. What is one internet trend you are ready see end for the rest of time?
I love the idea of hashtags and understand why they can be important, but I find it distracting to read a tweet followed by six hashtags. Sometimes I have trouble finding the link because I’m blinded by all the ######s. There should be a one hashtag Twitter rule
5. Tell me about your favorite SOMETHING. What do you recommend to the community?
My favorite television show, hands down, is “The Amazing Race.” I’m not a big reality show fan, but this is the only one I could ever see myself participating in. I’d love the opportunity to travel the world like that, see countries I’d probably never visit otherwise, and participate in those once-in-a-lifetime cultural experiences. Plus, I can be pretty competitive My husband and I joke each season about applying … maybe someday we will. Of course, I don’t know what I’d do if I was presented with a challenge that required eating meat after 20+ years of being a vegetarian!
