our friend Kelly from Brownies and Zucchini is taking over HLB today while we pull together some last minute Summit details before we arrive at the hotel on Thursday! Take it away, Kelly!
This year is the third time that I will be attending Healthy Living Summit.
The first year I attended was back in 2010 when it was in Chicago – just a few hours drive from where I live. Blog conferences were not something that I had ever done before (or really even thought about doing), and I was honestly not at all sure what I was getting into, or what it would be like. I had been reading blogs for about a year prior to the conference, but I didn’t start my own until a couple of months before. I bought a ticket on a whim, and hoped for the best.
That first experience was a whirlwind – to say the least. Seeing the “big bloggers” and others who have obviously met before in real life and are friends was a bit overwhelming and intimidating at first. However, once I got a little more settled and found the people that I knew from our blogs and twitter, the nerves settled a bit and I just tried to take everything in and enjoy it. It was a great experience even though it was more stressful than it probably should have been.
I’ve come a long way since that first overwhelming experience. Last year in Philadelphia I had a blast! Of course there are always some nerves when going to a big event like this, but I knew so many more people and was much more confident to approach those that I hadn’t met before.
It might sound cheesy, but that first overwhelming experience was really good for me and helped me get through some things I knew I needed to work on. Each year is a different experience for everyone. People grow and interests change, there are different speakers, food, and entertainment – not to mention a whole new city to explore every time!
This year, I am very excited about HLS in Boston. The nerves still show up but are few and far between. I’m excited to see friends that I’ve made and meet new friends. There are always great speakers at HLS, but the schedule this year is really looking amazing. Some of my favorite bloggers are speaking and there are some great topics that will be discussed.
Aside from the great people that will be there, I’m also looking forward to some great food. Delicious food is one of the things that I always am excited for whenever I travel. Between the breakfasts and lunches at the conference, product sampling and swag treats, and the dinners out, the food is always one of my favorite parts of the weekend! [And at this year’s Summit weekend in Cambridge there are some deliciousness guaranteed mini-mingles, too! Have you signed up for any yet?]
Overall I’m excited and feel very lucky to be able to go again this year! Will I see YOU at HLS this year?? What are you most looking forward to during Summit weekend?
